Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative Medicine is the process of replacing, engineering or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish normal function. Regenerative Medicine procedures are used to re-establish normal joint function and address soft tissue damage.

About Regenerative Medicine

Why Regenerative Medicine?

Are you one of the millions of Americans suffering from pain in your knees, ankles, shoulders, spine or other joints preventing you from being active? Does it hurt to play golf, go for a hike, do chores, or even play with your grandchildren?

As we age, our bodies start to lose their ability to regenerate, which makes us more susceptible to painful, degenerative conditions, such as osteoarthritis. Left untreated, these conditions threaten the active lifestyle that we all work so hard to obtain.

Our patients are looking for faster recovery, less invasive alternatives to surgery, or perhaps just trying to delay surgery. Our Medical Director, Dr. Kerry Latch, will only offer regenerative medicine treatments that studies have shown to be safe and effective. We develop treatment goals closely with our patients to match what we believe our patient can achieve by receiving the recommended treatment plan.

Treatment Options and Plan

The treatment is simple and will not interfere with your daily life or require a long recovery period like so many invasive surgical procedures. We will make a non-surgical regenerative medicine injection into your damaged joint. Go about your daily routine as normal while the cells create an optimal environment in your joints allowing your body to repair itself.

Significant results can be expected within 6 to 12 weeks at which time you are free to increase your activity to your comfort level. In the background the regenerative process will continue to restore damage!

Regenerative Medicine Treatments

Platelet Rich Plasma PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy allows us to use your own blood to reduce your pain and help you heal from soft tissue injuries, such as ligament and tendon injuries. Plasma is the part of your blood that carries red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. In this procedure, we take a little of your blood and separate out the platelets using a centrifuge. Then we inject this material into your injured tendon or cartilage, through x-ray or ultrasound guidance. Within about eight weeks, you should notice improved function and less pain.

What are Stem Cells and how are they Recovered?

Advanced medical research has indicated that structural tissue collected from a healthy baby’s umbilical cord has the potential to combat this by providing the stem cells, proteins, and growth factors needed to promote cellular regeneration and healing of damaged tissue. The most studied approach to the collection of stem cells is through them being obtained from a patient’s own bone marrow. This cellular material has the incredible potential to positively change the conditions inside your joints and to trigger your own tissue into aiding in the regenerative process.
